NAYSON - by Sue and John 1989

With head held high, he looks so proud

As he surveys his land from grass to cloud

His mane lifts gently in the wind

This beautiful grandson of the famous Sindh

With his coat of gold and his silken tail

He moves with the grace of a ship under sail

His eyes are kind and full of care

But they certainly hide the mischief there

He'll look at you as if to say

"You'll never guess what I'll do today!"

You'd never know when you see him graze

The surprises that lie within his gaze.

But there is no malice in those lovely eyes

I't's just the cheeky things he tries

He'll stop and snort and look around

At anything new upon the ground

But his curiosity overcomes the fear

As he walks straight past with a watchful ear.

He's first in his yard when feed time comes

'Cause he knows the sound of the clattering drums

He patiently waits beside his tin

'Til every drop of his feed's poured in.

His trust in man is so complete

With a loyalty that's hard to beat

We stand and talk and he listens to me

While he gently rubs me lovingly

He's full of character, spirit and pride

No better friend could I have at my side.

On the 30th January, 2009, we made the heartbreaking decision to put this wonderful old man to sleep. One of a kind, a true Arabian, tough, full of character, a more loyal and trusting friend would be hard to find. We are blessed to have had him in our lives for over twenty years and to enjoy his great spirit, his smooth unfaltering paces and his incredible trust in humans. He is buried here at "Taringa". Following is his story and you can visit his photo album  and share our memories.

We purchased Nayson in 1989 and he was our introduction to purebreds and the Crabbet Arabian. We loved his type, his tremendous bone, excellent feet and legs and lovely length of rein and his huge dark eyes. When we researched  his pedigree, we found he had fantastic bloodlines and was nearly 100% Crabbet-bred. His dam was a mare named Lasiandra who was by Sindh (imp UK). We were amazed at the similarities between Nayson and this mighty horse. Same colour, markings and that definate "look". Nayson is a character all on his own and he and John have a very special bond. John swears that Nayson understands every word he says and I'm almost convinced he is right! He even shakes hands - something that kids and adults love to see. Nayson loves human company but also has his favourite mares. He runs with 5 of the broodmares and is the boss.  After some initial "control" problems early on, which were sorted out, Nays has proved to be a fabulous riding horse.  He would have made a tremendous endurance horse or even an eventer, he has no fear, so bold and surefooted and will go anywhere you ask him. And he loves nothing more than running into a dam and splashing around with "Lili" one of our dogs!  Nayson is now in his 30th year but his verve for life and his eagerness to still go on rides  belies his age . He is ridden regularly, only on  pleasure rides now that we have moved but he was still mustering cattle up until mid 2008.We are sure that keeping him fairly fit and letting him know he is still useful has kept him so well. Many friends and clients have ridden him and all have found him a very easy, comfortable ride with  just the right amount of spirit!

We have treasured every year we had with you, our old friend, rest in peace now, you are forever in our hearts.

Thank you all who sent emails of sympathy. Here are a few:

I am so sorry.  My very sincere sympathy.

Many of my riding experiences have faded into the background over time
but my ride on Nayson at Hume Creek has always remained fresh.  A
fabulous boy.

Sue and John,

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news.
I know Nayson was particularly dear to you, John; and represented close to your ideals of what a  good
Arabian horse should be like.
A great mate who will be sorely missed ... but, great memories too!

Best Regards, both

Dick Busser.

Hi guys,
Sorry for your loss..  A good innings and a good life since you've had him.  I know the feeling very well, although I think Nayson was a more lovable horse than Misty!  Thinking of you,
Kim.
Huge hugs to you both, I know how hard it would be to make the decision, he was the best horse & John's faithful best friend. He had the best life with you guys.
